AISH 2017

There is still time to come in and get your sticker and charm square for the All Iowa Shop Hop that runs through the end of June. Here is the design Three Jars Full made using the jelly roll strips in the black and white plus some yardage of the feature fabrics. We did add a couple of grays but you could also add a touch of color if you wanted more than a neutral piece. Patterns and a couple of kits are available for purchase while supplies last.

2017 Row

Row By Row On The Go starts next Wednesday, June 21st and runs through September 5th. During this time stop into any of the participating quilt shops to pick up a copy of your complimentary pattern for their row. We will also have kits available for purchase if you want to use the same fabric we did and buttons. (We love to add buttons to our rows) Here it is:

Collect 8 rows patterns from 8 different shops, make them into a finished quilt. Each shop will give a prize of 25 fat quarters, plus a bonus if that shop's row is used in the quilt, to the first person to bring in their piece. There are MANY shops participating throughout the US so it gives you a chance to get rows from other places if you vacation during the summer.

New this year is Row By Row Junior for the 9-14 year olds. There is a free pattern for them as well - very simple for beginners. The first five youngsters to bring in their competed row gets a certificate of completion and a ribbon. What a great way to encourage the next generation to get into sewing! Pass your love of quilting on to a child or grandchild and take them on the hop with you. We also have kits for this row if you like our choices.

Postcard from Iowa

Here is the stitched model of our complimentary pattern for the Collective Stitch event:

As you can see I stitched mine on a hand dyed piece of blue aida so i didn't have to fill in all the sky section.

Stop in through August 31st to get your pattern and sign up for a drawing to win a 2017 book that has all 25 patterns in it of " A Postcard From ..."

Not close enough to visit? Order a booklet that will be available with all patterns in it after the event is done.

Chessie & Me

Great day here today - hope everyone has a pleasant weekend and we remember those who gave their lives in defending our great country and those who have served or serve in the military today.

Just got in a box of the most darling counted cross stitch kits from Chessie & Me. They are fairly small designs that are worked on 36 ct linen fabric and include the fabric and silk floss to complete. Several of the designs are perfect for highlighting our country's independence with 1776 or flags on them. You still have time to work one up and display for the 4th of July. They would make great little pillows or pin cushions. Another finish might be on a painted paper mache box that is hinged like a small book. I got some of those blank ones in, too, so you can customize your look.

I've started work on a quilt design for the All Iowa Shop Hop designed by Three Jars Full (Jennifer) that is done in black and white strips with just a touch of bright color in the borders. Think I'll get the top pieced in time for the beginning of the hop? That would be next Thursday - come in and see ;)

Attention all fabric lovers! The All Iowa Shop Hop magazine has finally arrived. Stop in and pick up your copy before they are all gone - only $6.00. There are patterns plus a directory of the 95 participating shops with hours and specialties. It also contains your passport that can be turned in at the end of your hop for entry into drawings for great prizes. You may indicate which shop you would like to pick up your prizes at. You will have to visit at least 5 shops to qualify for a drawing. The more shops you visit, the bigger and better the prize. These are handy to use all year long to check when shops are open. We will begin selling the AISH limited edition fabrics on June 1st when the shop hop starts. Remember this hop lasts the whole month of June and just during June, we will be open on Mondays from 10-5. Come on in and see us!

Just got in these CUTE box toppers from Faithwurks. One is called 3 Cheers and has 3 Uncle Sam figures that sit on the top of a small box. The other one is Hoppy Easter with a white chocolate bunny for the top. All you need to stitch is the banding that goes around the box. All banding and floss are included in the kit. You can paint the cardboard box whatever color you would like to match the design.

A reminder that we have four parking places leased in the lot behind us that are marked for Fiberworks customers during the construction on Bremer Ave. There is no parking on the street in front of the store but you can still come in the front door if you wish. You can also follow Denny (Denise) the Detour Dog's sign pointing to the back door. She has her crazy quilted shirt on since the street construction is CRAZY.

Entry reminder

Just wanted to remind you to use the back entrance on Saturday if the firefighters are using the street in front of the store. The IFA is having their convention in Waverly this week.

Row By Row is now officially over for 2016 and we are in the hibernation period until November 1. We have a few kits left over that we will be able to sell after that time as well as the patterns. You may call and reserve one for shipping after that date.

It is almost time for our 23rd birthday celebration - September 20-24. We will have our tree up with the tootsie pops ready for you to choose one to determine if you get 10, 15, or 20 percent off your purchase. (applies to items not already discounted)

The new September/October issue of the Country Registers is in - stop in and pick up a free copy.

The Lizzie Kate trunk show is up and hanging for you to see. These are models from her "Littles" and Boxers". They are really cute and you can see what they really look like in person.

Row By Row Ready

Here's our row for 2016 - Home is Where Your Honey Is. We used to have bee hives and "grew" our own honey several years ago so we are used to having bees buzzing around.

This extremely cute row gives you the opportunity to get creative in your quilting path. I just did some bee trail swirls in the places that looked like they needed some quilting as well as stitched in the ditch around the flowers, leaves, and hive layers - anything goes.

Aren't the country bee buttons cute that Jennifer picked to gather nectar from the flowers. The yo-yos on the flower centers give a nice dimension to the row and accented with yellow buttons.

Remember you can get the pattern free (one) or kit (buy as many as you want with pattern included) ONLY if you come into the shop between June 21st and Sept 5th. Then there is a hibernation period until November 1st that nothing is available either in the store or by mail. On November 1st we can start to mail out kits and/or patterns to those who would like them. If you pick a pattern up in the store they are furnished free of charge. After the hibernation period, they will be sold rather than given free. We will also have just a button pack available for sale if you want to use your own fabrics.

Our kit will include all the fabric you will need for the front, buttons and letters printed on freezer paper for ease of applying. All the strips are cut to the correct width so you just have to cut to the right length and sew together.

The first person to bring in a quilt completely bound and labeled using at least 8 rows from 8 different shops wins 25 fat quarters, plus if you use our row in your quilt, a $25.00 gift certificate. We would be happy to display your finished quilt for the duration of the "experience" so others can see how creative you are.

More progress

I had a chance to work on Threedles - Something Different canvas piece. The five squares are filled in at the intersections of the octagons and in the middle. I think it is looking pretty good. I felt some accomplishment at completing not just one area but five, even if they are smaller than the focal points.

Newest Just Nan

The mail arrived today with the two newest designs from Just Nan. Both are limited edition pieces so get yours while you can.

Romeo the Groom Mouse joins his bride wearing a cute top hat and rose boutonniere. The brass tail and button stand also come with the pattern. It is shown stitched on 32 count Silvery Moon Belfast linen from Zweigart.

The second design is in celebration of Nan's 25th anniversary of designing cross stitch pieces. It is called Peacock Garden Scissor Roll. The pattern includes beads, gold cube bead and snap for closure, violet wool and the peacock rose pin. The wool is the lining for the back of the roll which is stitched on 32 count Flax Belfast linen by Zweigart. Finished size is 2" tall and 3 1/2" - 4" embroidery scissors fit the pocket just right.

Speaking of scissor, remember this week all in stock scissors and scissor fobs are on sale!
